Yes, I live in Point Loma.
How long have you been surfing?
I was 11 years old when I really got into surfing. My dad taught me how to surf out at Tourmaline when I was a little grom. I remember my older sister and I being pushed tandem into waves until our combined will made it work.
Favorite surf spot in San Diego?
“Sub” off of PLNU. Nothing beats reef based consistent rights.
Best moment surfing?
Surfing at Sunset Cliffs on a conveyor belt kind of day where there were just non-stop waves and I got a sick nose ride right in front of my buddies who always give me poop for never seeing my claims.
Any crazy wildlife experiences?
Out at garbage, there were two scuba divers that came swimming in super fast because they encountered two juvenile great whites. That was pretty crazy!
Have you had any scary moments in the water?
On the 4th of July 2020, the waves were absolutely pumping. My sister duck dived under a wave and got mangled in the white wash and ended up splitting her eye lid open on her fin. There was blood and she couldn’t see. It was a pretty freaky session and later an ER visit.
How often do you surf?
Summertime I’ll try to surf twice a day because it’s so hard not to just trunk it for hour long sessions when it’s warm. Winter, probably three times a week. Putting on a 4:3 and maybe booties, better mean the conditions are good.
What is your all-time favorite surfboard?
Hobie Uncle Buck, 9’6, Double stringer, Orangey Yellow tint. Nice full nose for waking the nose and pulled tail fun for wacking lip.
What do you love most about surfing?
I like the community the best. Some of my best friends I’ve met from going to the beach. There are so many connections that I have just from having fun with locals.
What are some surf etiquette rules you wish people would adhere to?
People should stop being eggy, like leave that at home. Respect and froth are crucial rules to master.
Advice to new surfers?
Being new at stuff sucks especially surfing but stay stoked!
